Role Overview:
As a Remote Bookkeeper, you will be a crucial point of contact for clients, deeply understanding their business needs to provide comprehensive bookkeeping support. Your responsibilities will involve ensuring all client accounts are meticulously managed and that financial records are always up-to-date and compliant. This role requires an organised, flexible professional capable of thriving in a virtual environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform thorough bank reconciliations, matching statements with accounting records for precision.
Manage sales and purchase ledgers, handling transaction recording, invoice processing, and payment monitoring.
Execute complex journal entries, including accruals and prepayments, with a clear understanding of their financial impact.
Conduct meticulous balance sheet reconciliations across all general ledger accounts.
Prepare and submit VAT and CIS returns, ensuring full compliance with UK regulations.
Generate comprehensive monthly/quarterly management accounts, providing insightful financial reports.
Maintain professional and clear communication with clients and internal teams.
Utilise Xero and Microsoft Office (specifically Excel and Outlook) effectively for financial reporting and data management.
Essential Skills & Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of practical bookkeeping experience.
At least 3 years of hands-on experience with Xero Accounting Software.
A strong grasp of accruals and prepayments, including the ability to confidently process and explain them.
Solid understanding of VAT regulations for UK-based clients.
Proficient and confident in using Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook and Excel.
Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and issue-resolution abilities with an acute eye for detail.
Demonstrated excellence in decision-making and judgment.
Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
Proven capacity to work effectively and efficiently under pressure.
An organised, adaptable, and flexible approach to work.
Excellent accounting skills, including a solid understanding of taxation for individuals and small companies.
Ability to integrate well into a small team and take full ownership of assigned tasks.
High commercial acumen and a proactive, self-starter mindset.
Experience with additional payroll software is considered advantageous.
Absolute discretion and integrity in handling confidential financial information.
